Edinburgh Christmas Markets
Do you hear what I hear? I don’t know how the rest of that song goes, but if Bing Crosby’s Christmas sounds anything like mine it sounds like excited children, a smoke alarm going off when the turkey comes out the oven and then an entire family snoring away having lapsed into the post-Christmas dinner stupor. The one time of the year when terrible jumpers are to be applauded, not mocked, is here again, and even the grinchiest of grinch can’t help but get a little excited about it.
Christmas in Edinburgh is gorgeous. There’s really no other word for it – a walk down George Street past the decorated famous buildings and landmarks like The Dome shows just how seriously this city takes the holiday, and the decorations have to be seen to be believed. It’s not simply the aesthetic, either, as there is SO MUCH to do here around Christmas time.
Largest Christmas Market Ever!
As mentioned in a previous blog, Edinburgh’s world-famous Christmas Market is here again and it’s bigger and better than ever! Between the food, drink, stalls and rides, there’s something for everyone, but this is just the tip of the sugar-coated iceberg and the fun does not stop there. Various locations around Edinburgh are taking part in the 24 Doors of Advent. Locations such as the National Library of Scotland or the BT Murrayfield Stadium are opening their doors to make a real-life advent calendar, starting from the 1st of December with a different venue every day up until Christmas Eve. Fans of the theatre will delight in An Edinburgh Christmas Carol, which is adapted from the classic Dickens novel but with its own original spin, or if you’d rather be on your feet than on your seat then head along to Now That’s What I Call Christmas Live which will be playing all the Christmas hits you know and love.
And let’s not forget everyone’s favourite part of Christmas – the presents! Well, Edinburgh has that covered too. For those of you slowly slipping into a blind panic about what to get your significant other, between the high street fashions of Princes Street, the boutiques on George Street and the unique offerings found in the nooks and crannies of the Royal Mile, there is no excuse for any half-empty Christmas stockings this year and certainly no excuse to resort to buying a loved one socks (although a pair of cosy bed socks might not be so bad).
