Scotland on the Silver Screen
Edinburgh’s economy saw an increase in the income from films
and the television industry in 2009. The number of days spent filming rose by
ten per cent. Local businesses especially those providing nourishment and
shelter benefit from each film and television production the city attracts, the
spend in 2009 was £4.2 million. During 2009 there were 4 films (Outcast,
Imogene, Cosi and The Whicker Tree), three television productions, two
documentaries, two commercials and four entertainment shows shot in and around
Edinburgh.
The old city centre streets and buildings provide an excellent
location with Abercromby Place, and Heriot Row and William Street appearing in
productions. East Lothian and Midlothian have also proved popular locations for
mansions and grounds. Watch carefully the next time you are watching a film or
television programme and don’t but surprised if you catch a glimpse of the
familiar.
